US President Donald Trump called on Israel and Iran to immediately halt hostilities as tensions between the two countries escalated once again. Despite renewed military exchanges, Trump claimed that efforts toward a ceasefire were progressing and suggested that both sides were moving closer to an agreement.

The appeal came after Israel launched strikes on targets in Iran following missile attacks from Tehran, raising concerns about a wider regional conflict. Trump publicly urged both nations to "stop shooting" and expressed confidence that diplomatic channels remained active.

While Trump maintained that ceasefire discussions were advancing, reports indicated that military operations continued on both sides, highlighting the fragile nature of any potential truce. The renewed violence has drawn international attention, with global leaders calling for restraint and a return to negotiations.

The situation remains fluid, with uncertainty over whether the latest diplomatic efforts will succeed in preventing further escalation in the Middle East.

A Delhi court on Thursday remanded hotel owner Lavkesh Bajaj to four days of police custody in connection with the devastating Malviya Nagar hotel fire that claimed 21 lives.

According to investigators, Bajaj is being questioned over alleged violations related to the operation of the hotel, including fire safety compliance, licensing irregularities, and unauthorized construction. Police told the court that custodial interrogation is necessary to uncover the full extent of the alleged violations and identify other individuals involved in the management and operation of the establishment.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the property was reportedly operating far beyond its approved capacity and may have lacked the required fire safety clearances. Authorities are also examining the hotel's ownership structure, licensing records, and the role of other associates connected to the business.

The tragic blaze, which broke out at the hotel in Delhi's Malviya Nagar area, resulted in the deaths of 21 people and left several others injured. Following the incident, Delhi Police registered a case under provisions related to culpable homicide and launched a detailed investigation into the circumstances leading to the fire.

Officials stated that the police custody period will be used to gather evidence, verify documents, and determine accountability for the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.

# Criminal Prosecution Cannot Be Halted Solely Due To Pendency Of Civil Dispute:

Allahabad High Court The Allahabad High Court has reiterated that criminal proceedings cannot be quashed merely because the dispute between the parties also involves civil aspects. The Court emphasized that when allegations disclosed in the FIR and charge sheet prima facie constitute cognizable criminal offences, the existence of a parallel civil dispute is not sufficient to terminate criminal prosecution. The observation was made while considering a petition seeking quashing of criminal proceedings under Section 482 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The petitioner argued that the matter was essentially civil in nature and that criminal prosecution had been initiated to exert pressure in a private dispute. Rejecting the contention, the Court noted that the allegations contained in the FIR clearly disclosed the commission of cognizable offences. It observed that the mere presence of a civil remedy or civil litigation between the parties does not automatically extinguish criminal liability if the facts also reveal elements of a criminal offence. The Court clarified that civil and criminal remedies may coexist when the same set of facts gives rise to both civil consequences and criminal wrongdoing. Therefore, criminal proceedings cannot be quashed solely on the ground that a civil dispute is pending or available between the parties. Reaffirming settled legal principles, the Court held that the inherent powers of the High Court under Section 482 CrPC must be exercised sparingly and only in exceptional circumstances. Where the allegations, if accepted at face value, disclose the ingredients of a criminal offence, the criminal process should ordinarily be allowed to continue. Accordingly, the Court declined to interfere with the charge sheet and related criminal proceedings, holding that the matter should proceed in accordance with law before the competent trial court. The ruling reinforces the principle that criminal law cannot be bypassed merely because the dispute also involves contractual, financial, property-related, or other civil claims. Where criminal intent or unlawful conduct is prima facie established, criminal prosecution remains maintainable notwithstanding the existence of parallel civil proceedings.

The Delhi High Court has reportedly shifted District Judge Rakesh Kumar to the Delhi Judicial Academy after a video showing a heated exchange between him and a lawyer at Rohini Court went viral on social media. The transfer temporarily relieves him of judicial duties while the matter draws attention from the legal fraternity. (livelaw.in)

According to reports, the Rajasthan High Court recently quashed a rape case filed by a woman against her husband, observing that their marriage had been solemnized voluntarily and that the allegations did not justify continuation of criminal proceedings. The court noted that both parties had entered into the marriage of their own free will, and continuing the case would amount to misuse of the legal process.

According to a report by The Times of India, the Indian government has introduced new IT rules about AI-generated content like deepfake videos, edited images, and synthetic audio.

What are the new rules?

AI content must be clearly labeled
If a photo, video, or audio is created or changed using AI, platforms must clearly mention that it is AI-generated.
Users should be able to easily understand that the content is not completely real.

Platforms must act very fast
If the government or a court orders removal of illegal content, platforms now have only 3 hours to remove it.
Earlier, they had 36 hours.

Platforms affected
Big platforms like Google, YouTube, and Instagram will have to follow these rules.

Why this rule was made
The government wants to stop misuse of AI, especially:

Deepfake videos
Fake documents
Misleading or harmful content
Child abuse material

Responsibility of platforms
Social media and tech companies must:
Ask users if their content is AI-generated
Use tools to detect fake or synthetic content
Clearly warn users about misuse and penalties

When will this start?

The new rules will come into effect from 20 February 2026.
